Shoppers across Wales are being encouraged to use their spending power to create positive social and environmental impacts by supporting local social enterprises this Christmas.

Social enterprises are businesses that trade to meet a social or environmental mission. They make a profit like any other business but they reinvest or donate their profits to create a positive social impact. The Social Christmas Wales campaign, being launched for the first time this year and run by Social Business Wales, is all about promoting social enterprises and encouraging the public to shop with them over the Christmas period. Social Business Wales is a European and Welsh Government funded project which helps social businesses to grow and become more sustainable.

"We are all about reducing plastic waste at our shop, so the more people who are aware of us, the more impact we can have. Every single person who shops at Natural Weigh is making a conscious choice to refuse single use plastic. Since opening in March 2018, our customers have avoided over 25,000 pieces of single use plastic from being created, used once, and discarded. This is a huge achievement and one we are incredibly proud to be part of."

"Fair Do's Siopa Teg is delighted to be part of the Social Christmas campaign this year. We are a social enterprise, providing an outlet for farmers and artisans in some of the poorest areas of the world, buying their wonderful products on fair trade terms, enabling them to earn a sustainable living and empowering women.
We are a small business, aiming to make a big impact, with sales of over £2.5 million in our 20 years of trading. Shop with us this Christmas, and as well as going home with high quality foods and beautiful hand made gifts, you will have made a difference to the quality of life of farmers and artisans from Swaziland to Sri Lanka!"

Jan Tucker, Manager of Fair Do's in Cardiff

"Our Social Christmas campaign is all about celebrating and raising awareness about our growing movement. Following our successful Social Summer campaign earlier this year, we want to really put social enterprises on the map in Wales. When you buy from social enterprises your money goes so much further; I encourage you to get behind our campaign and go out there and buy social this Christmas."
