This week, the Social Enterprise Stakeholder Group for Wales hosted a webinar on the Small Business Research Initiative Healthy Ageing Social Ventures Competition.

The competition is now open for applications and closes on 15th September.  The aim of the competition is to fund organisations to deliver social impact and address one or more of the 7 themes of the Healthy Ageing Challenge Framework

UKRI will award up to £4 million across 2 strands. These are:

  1. Healthy Ageing Social Ventures Feasibility Studies for projects with costs up to £50,000
  2. Healthy Ageing Social Ventures industrial research for projects with costs from £50,000 to £150,000 for prototype development and evaluation (this strand)

This is phase 1 of a potential 2-phase competition.

We were pleased to welcome Marcia Jones from Welsh Government and Helen Crampin from UK Research and Innovation to talk about the competition and answer questions.  You can view their slides below.

A recording of the webinar is available here.

Some of the top tips we’ve taken away from the session are:

  • Be clear on who your Lead Customer is. You should identify at least one lead customer.
  • Projects can include services not just technology.
  • Register and start the application form straight away. Read through the full form so you know all of the information you will be required to provide.
