Overview

Offering community approaches to home ownership can enable individuals to have a financial stake in their home whilst providing some communal safety net alongside the benefits that come from living in a community. Some schemes have also been able to make home ownership more affordable.

The importance of community groups

Whilst all of the models can be developed either using the Grass Roots approach or Top Down Meets Bottom Up, they rely on the strength of the community group established to sustain them.

Because they are market based approaches, the members and residents of the scheme need to identify with the CCLH scheme and want to be a part of it.
