Yes you; the social entrepreneurs, the business leaders, the hardworking co-operators and talented innovators of the social business sector in Wales.

While 2020 will be remembered as the year of Covid-19, we will never forget the moments of kindness that made it a year of solidarity, community spirit and co-operation. We saw social enterprises reaching out to communities across Wales to support those who needed extra help; and social enterprises also stepped up to supply vital resources and raise money for our NHS. It was also a year of enormous resilience and transformation for the sector. These are achievements we need to celebrate!

So step up to the plate, accept our invitation and apply for the 2021 Social Business Wales Awards. Not only could you win a cash prize and boost your reputation, but you could become the pride of your community and inspire a nation to do business better.

Applications are open from 24 May till 16 July. Register your interest now to receive your forms, updates, reminders and useful information to help you through the process.

For categories 1-5, your organisation must be a business head-quartered in Wales that defines itself as a social enterprise using the following criteria:

  1. The business has a clear social or environmental mission that is set out in its governing documents.
  2. It is an independent business and typically earns more than half of its income through trading (we recognise that trading conditions in 2020/2021 have been disrupted and that there may be a higher than usual proportion of income through grants and loans this year).
  3. It is controlled or owned in the interests of the social mission.
  4. It invests or gives away at least half its profits or surpluses towards its social purpose.
  5. It is transparent about how it operates and the impact it has.

Category 6 (Buy Social) is also open to organisations head-quartered in Wales operating in the third, public or private sector.

Prizes on offer

Winners will receive £1000 prize money, a professional photo-shoot of their organisation, media coverage, and one year’s free membership of the Wales Co-operative Centre.

It is still uncertain whether we will be able to hold a live Awards ceremony this year. At this stage, we anticipate holding an online event at the end of September. We may all be watching from home, but this will still be an occasion to get suited and booted, fine dine (or order a takeaway!), crack open some champagne and enjoy the show!

We are extremely grateful to our sponsors – principal sponsor Cowshed, alongside associate sponsor  Legal and General, and category sponsors Acuity Law, Perago and Triodos.
